Q + A

What is the weather like?

Expect splendid high temperatures around 83°F (30°C) during the day and and lows around 52°F (11°C) at the dead of night. You can expect plenty of sunshine during the day with a light breeze. April is a dry month with almost no rainfall (we hope!).

Should I book a hotel or Airbnb?

We love both options! Overall, we recommend staying in San Miguel center, which you'll find most places are, as you'll be walking accessible to the events. If you're staying with a larger group - we recommend looking at home rentals on Airbnb or Premier San Miguel (rentals). There is also a great selection of luxury & boutique hotels or haciendas if you're interested in concierge service, amenities, cleaning service, breakfast etc.

Are there Ubers?

Yes, but most places in San Miguel are very walkable.

How do I get from Airport to San Miguel?

We recommend pre-booking a car service to bring you from the airport to San Miguel - this is the easiest and safest option. We do not recommend renting a car as San Miguel is a very walkable with minimal parking available.

What shoes should I wear?

San Miguel is an old city and the majority of the streets are cobblestone. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes as we will be parading in the streets (if you're wearing heels - leave the Stilettos at home and opt for a platform heel).

Are the events indoors or outdoors?

All of our event venues follow a typical San Miguel design that features open patios with some coverage. The wedding will be outside with appropriate tenting and patio coverage for the dinner and after party.

Do I need cash?

The vast majority of places accept credit cards. However, many local vendors only take cash. Tipping or offering payment in cash goes a long way. The main place we have withdrawn cash has been at the airport ATM's, although several major banks operate in the city center.

Do I need to practice my Spanish?

Claro! Although you should always practice your Spanish, San Miguel is a very tourist friendly place accustomed to English speakers.

Is the water safe?

As a general rule-of-thumb avoid drinking the tap water. Restaurants are used to tourists and use purified water as well as for ice, but always good to use your best judgement.

Is San Miguel de Allende Safe?

Yes! San Miguel is very safe, with a low crime rate compared to other parts of Mexico. However, it's still important to practice common sense when traveling. Keep valuables close, be mindful of people passing you and pay attention to your surroundings!

Where is the pharmacy?

There are pharmacies around the city center. If you unfortunately succumb to Montezuma's revenge (aka stomach issues) - we recommend this combination of 1) activated charcoal and 2) either of the following - Imodium, Loperamide, Treda Ultra, Nineka. If you know you're sensitive - taking Pepto-Bismol a few days before you travel and while you are traveling can help prevent any issues (as endorsed by our friends in healthcare)!
